Specimen Calculation
I recently had a little discussion with students. One said: „If every resident in Germany only gave me one euro, then I would almost be 81 times a millionaire!“. That made me think. Often you can hear and read, that you can ensure a regular school attendance for a child in Asia or Africa with two euros a month. That makes 24 euros per year! How much money do we literally throw down the drain over the year? Bad buys, rotten food, etc. No single person really needs millions of euros. There is sufficient wealth and food in this world. They are distributed in an unfair way. It is not only a human or religious aspect to share. Also due to economic reasons we would do well to change the poverty in our own country and on other continents. Colonialism was initiated by us. The world´s current conditions are mostly the result of it. How much sources of fire and wars are attributed to colonialism? I don’t know it! But at the moment we spend a lot of money in the aftermath of our former mistakes. It would be important to abolish the reasons. The possibility of regular school attendance for a child in Africa should be a good start …

Ich hatte neulich eine kleine Diskussion mit Schülern. Einer meinte: „Gäbe mir jeder Einwohner in Deutschland nur einen Euro, dann wäre ich fast 81-facher Millionär!“. Das machte mich nachdenklich. Wie oft hört oder liest man, dass man schon mit zwei Euro im Monat einem Kind in Asien oder Afrika einen regelmäßigen Schulbesuch gewährleisten kann. Das sind 24 Euro im Jahr! Wie viel Geld werfen wir über das Jahr buchstäblich zum Fenster hinaus?! Fehlkäufe, verrottete Lebensmittel usw. Wir brauchen keine Millionen für eine einzelne Person. Reichtum und Essen sind auf dieser Welt genug vorhanden; sie sind ungerecht verteilt. Es ist nicht nur ein humaner oder religiöser Aspekt, zu teilen. Auch aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen täten wir gut daran, an der Armut im eigenen Land und auf anderen Kontinenten etwas zu ändern. Der Kolonialismus wurde von uns initiiert. Die derzeitigen Zustände auf der Welt sind zum größten Teil dessen Ergebnis. Wie viel Brand- und Kriegsherde sind dem geschuldet? Ich weiß es nicht! Aber wir stecken im Moment sehr viel Geld in die Folgen unserer damaligen Fehler. Wichtig wäre es, die Ursachen zu beseitigen.
