China in fear

In the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung you can read that China is in fear. In Hong Kong thousands of democratically minded students are protesting. The government takes full action against the protesters. Due to the British Empire and the following period Hong Kong is still accustomed to Western and therefore democratic standards. It is not expected that China will be able to change this completely in future. One has fear in Chinese government. Democracy is seen as a kind of virus that could spread over the whole People’s Republic. That’s why they fight it from the very beginning. The fear of democracy is stronger than that of the masses of people. But future will show it: the will of a people for freedom and self-determination can not be suppressed permanently. It is only a matter of time.

China in Angst

In der Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung liest man, dass in China die Angst umgeht. In Hongkong protestieren Tausende demokratisch gesinnter Studenten. Die Regierung geht wieder mit aller Härte vor. Hongkong ist aus der Nachfolgezeit des Britischen Empire nach wie vor westliche, damit demokratische Maßstäbe gewohnt. Es steht nicht zu erwarten, dass China dies je vollkommen ändern können wird. Man hat in der chinesischen Regierung Angst. Demokratie wird als eine Art Virus betrachtet, der auf die Volksrepublik übergreifen könnte. Deswegen bekämpft man ihn von Anfang an. Die Angst vor Demokratie ist größer als vor den Menschenmassen. Aber die Zukunft wird es zeigen: Den Willen eines Volkes nach Freiheit und Selbstbestimmung kann man nicht dauerhaft unterdrücken. Das ist nur eine Frage der Zeit.
